Professional Ethics and Code of Conduct for Teacher-Educators

Obligations towards Student-Teachers

  1. Always be punctual to attend to duties in the Institute
  2. Acknowledge and respect the uniqueness, individuality, and specific needs of Student-Teachers and promote holistic development.
  3. Respect the value of being just and impartial to all Student-Teachers irrespective of caste, creed, religion, sex, economic status, and language.
  4. Adapt her/his teaching to the individual needs of Student-Teachers.
  5. Respect the privacy of Student-Teachers and the confidentiality of information gained in the course of professional practice unless o legal imperative requires disclosure.
  6. Refrain from subjecting Student-Teachers to fear, trauma, anxiety, sexual abuse, and mental and emotional harassment.
  7. Refrain from inciting Student-Teachers against other Student-Teachers, Teacher-Educators, or Administration.
  8. Set a standard of dress, speech, and behavior worthy of example to Student-Teachers.
Obligations Towards Parents and Community/ Society

  1. Seek to establish cordial relations with parents/ guardians.
  2. Disseminate timely information to parents/ guardians regarding attainments and shortfalls of the Student-Teachers.
  3. Strive to develop the Institute as a community and human resource development centre thereby providing knowledge and skills needed for holistic development.
  4. Work actively to strengthen national integration and the spirit of oneness and togetherness.
Obligations Towards Profession and Colleagues

  1. Act with honesty and integrity in all aspects of work.
  2. Avoid conflict between professional work and private interests which could reasonably be deemed to impact negatively on Student-Teachers.
  3. Refrain from engaging in private tuition or private teaching activity.
  4. Refrain from accepting gifts or favour that might impair or appear to influence professional decisions or actions.
  5. Refrain from making unsubstantial allegations against colleagues or higher authorities.
  6. Avoid making derogatory statements about colleagues in the presence of Student-Teachers, other Teacher-Educators, officials, and parents.
  7. Accept as a professional the individual responsibility of reporting to the concerned authorities appropriately all matters that are considered to be prejudicial to the interests of the Student-Teachers and the development of the Institute.
  8. Cooperate with the head of the institute and colleagues in and outside the institute in both curricular and co-curricular activities.
Professional Code of Conduct for Administrative Staff

  1. Treat all Student-Teachers with love and affection and maintain the sanctity of the institutional environment.
  2. Respect and impartiality to all Student-Teachers irrespective of caste, creed, religion, sex, economic status, disability and language.
  3. Maintain punctuality, honesty, and commitment towards duties and responsibilities.
  4. Maintain discipline and follow the rules and regulations of the Institute.
  5. Maintain confidentiality of the information about Student-Teachers and Staff members unless a legal imperative requires disclosure.
  6. Refrain from accepting any gift or favor that might impair or appear to influence any significant decisions and actions.
